Roster fluctuations continue for the Milwaukee Brewers, who are in desperate need of a win and momentum boost in this afternoon's series finale against the Minnesota Twins. Today, the Brewers make a similar reliever for starter swap to the one they made last Sunday ahead of their series finale with the Tampa Bay Rays. This week, it's right-handed reliever Easton McGee who gets the call from Triple-A Nashville and replaces Tobias Myers on the active major league roster.

McGee has been in the Brewers' organization since November of 2023, when the team signed him to a minor league deal with an invite to big league spring training. However, when the Brewers signed McGee, he was roughly five months removed from Tommy John surgery, which forced him to miss the first half of the 2024 season. When he returned, in July of last year, he had a rough go of it in Triple-A Nashville — McGee posted a 7.03 ERA in 11 appearances for the Sounds.

However, 2025 is off to a much better start for 27-year-old right-hander. He's made 13 appearances for the Nashville Sounds, pitching to a 3.44 ERA while covering 18.1 innings. He relies heavily on a sinker-slider combo, but also throws a four-seamer, cutter, and curveball — a variety that allows him to cover more length out of the bullpen from time to time. His sinker tops out at 93 MPH, but has good arm side run and was an effective pitch for him in his most recent big league appearance (see video below).

It won't be McGee's MLB debut when he does appear for the Brewers, as he has made one single appearance for both the Rays and the Seattle Mariners, but it will be just his third career MLB appearance and his first big league action in more than two years.

Tobias Myers demoted to Triple-A, Connor Thomas transferred to 60-day IL in corresponding roster moves

It's been a whirlwind of a week for Myers. He was demoted to the minors at this time last week, then brought back to the majors before even making a start for the Nashville Sounds, and now he finds himself back in Triple-A.

While last week's demotion seemed like a tough decision at the time, this week's move comes after Myers allowed 11 hits to the Twins in just 3.2 innings en route to Saturday night's loss. After missing the first few weeks of the season with an oblique strain, Myers hasn't yet returned to the pitcher that he was a season ago. Hopefully, a few starts in Triple-A will help him work some things out.

Meanwhile, with McGee not on the Brewers' 40-man roster, a corresponding move needed to be made to free up a spot. The team announced that Rule 5 Draft pick Connor Thomas has been moved from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL. Thomas, who was off to a brutal start for the Brewers, went down with left elbow arthritis back on April 8. Without much of an update since, it appears Thomas is not progressing at the pace the Brewers had hoped, and he will now be sidelined until at least the second week of June.
