Just moments ago, the Milwaukee Brewers completed their 2026 draft class, wrapping up the 16-round marathon that is the second day of the MLB Draft. The Brewers added plenty of exciting talent to their farm system over the last two days, but perhaps no pick will have fans more excited than Milwaukee's selection in the final round of the draft.
With their 20th-round pick, the Brewers selected Carsten Sabathia III out of the University of Houston. Yes, Carsten is the oldest son of CC Sabathia, whose full name is Carsten Charles Sabathia Jr., the Brewers legend who played an integral part in Milwaukee's return to the postseason back in 2008.
Though CC Sabathia was only a member of the Brew Crew for about three months, the Hall of Fame starting pitcher's brief run in Milwaukee will never be forgotten, and CC himself continues to hold fond memories of his time with the Brewers. For those in need of a reminder, CC posted a 1.65 ERA in 17 starts, which included a ridiculous seven complete games and three shutouts. Not only did CC carry the Brewers' pitching staff to the postseason, frequently pitching on short rest and essentially giving Milwaukee's bullpen a day off whenever he pitched, but he also did so during a contract year. Sabathia was set to hit free agency at the end of the season, and whereas many starting pitchers would have eased off the gas to make sure they didn't get hurt before securing a long-term contract, CC did the opposite. He is truly a legend in Brewers' history.
Now, the Sabathia connection to the Brewers' franchise has been reignited as Carsten will presumably join Milwaukee's farm system in a few short weeks. However, unlike his father, Carsten isn't a starting pitcher; he's a powerful right-handed hitting first baseman.

Carsten's power potential has yet to completely translate to in-game power, but the 6'4", 245-lb. first baseman has produced head-turning exit velocities that suggest the big home run totals are still on the horizon. That said, Carsten still produced strong numbers in his final season at Houston this year, slashing .283/.374/.511 with six homers and 18 RBI in 37 games.
The 22-year-old Sabathia won't be the only son of a former Brewers' legend in the team's farm system should he end up signing a contract with Milwaukee. Jadyn Fielder, son of franchise icon Prince Fielder, is currently putting together a solid season for the Brewers' Low-A affiliate, the Wilson Warbirds, after signing on with the organization as a non-drafted free agent back in 2024.
Sabathia, as a four-year college player, could easily head right to Brewers' Low-A affiliate after signing his contract, creating a situation where the Warbirds could sport a Fielder-Sabathia right side of the infield. Fielder has been playing mostly outfield this year, but has played plenty of second base in the past.
More than anything, it's exciting to see the next generation of talent joining the Brewers' farm system, and the fact that one of them happens to be the son of a franchise legend makes it that much better.
