Brewers' Logan Henderson closing in on unfathomable record to start MLB career

The Milwaukee Brewers are reaping the benefits of their excellent pitching development department once again, as 24-year-old rookie right-hander Logan Henderson continues to build one of the most impressive starts to a career in MLB history.

Dating back to last season, Henderson has gone 21 consecutive outings without allowing more than three earned runs to start his career, including five appearances last year and 16 more this season. That remarkable streak has him tied with Aaron Sele for the second-longest in MLB history, as he accomplished this across the 1993 and 1994 seasons.

The current record holder is right-hander Zac Gallen, who recorded 23 consecutive outings with three or fewer earned runs across the 2019 and 2020 seasons with the Miami Marlins and Arizona Diamondbacks.

In that same territory, both Henderson and Gallen have also put together impressive runs of quality starts, which are defined as pitching at least six innings while allowing three or fewer earned runs. Henderson saw his streak of six consecutive quality starts snapped Wednesday against the Cubs, but he has recorded eight such starts overall in his young career. Gallen, meanwhile, totaled 12 quality starts during his historic stretch, including seven in a row in 2020.

Having last taken the mound on September 9, and with the Brewers expected to modify their starting rotation by having Kyle Harrison work in relief, Henderson’s next start will likely come during their September 15-17 series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. From there, he would appear likely to take the mound again during Milwaukee’s September 22-24 series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Both of those likely starts would come on the road. Henderson has already pitched at PNC Park, making his most recent appearance there in 2025 during his fourth career MLB start, when he tossed five innings while allowing just one run. He has yet to face the Phillies or pitch at Citizens Bank Park.

If all goes according to plan, Henderson could enter the 2026 MLB playoffs having matched Gallen’s MLB record of 23 consecutive starts without allowing more than three earned runs. That would create an intriguing storyline whenever Henderson takes the mound in October.

Henderson's incredible consistency through his first 21 starts also underscores why the Brewers should be encouraged about sending him out to the mound in either Game 2 or 3 of a playoff series. Henderson has given the Brewers a chance to win in every start he's made in the big leagues up to this point, which is exactly what the Brewers need in October.
