The 2024 season may not have ended the way the Milwaukee Brewers would have liked, but the future is certainly bright throughout the organization as Baseball America released their 2025 top prospects (subscription required) and showed the Brewers are in safe hands.
Of course, Jackson Chourio was the standout rookie as he notched a 21 homer, 22 stolen base season having blasted through the minor leagues since 2021. Other rookies that deserve plaudits include Joey Ortiz with a great defensive season at third base and he looks like a real positive addition from the Corbin Burnes trade, and we cannot forget the unsung hero that is Tobias Myers. When the Brewers needed starting pitcher, minor league journeyman Myers stepped up with a 9-6 record and 3.00 ERA
Other rookies Jacob Misiorowski and Tyler Black both featured in the top 10 on Baseball America's Brewers list, but an exciting switch-hitting shortstop takes the top spot and proves the farm system has turned a healthy new corner as the young core continues to develop.
Jesus Made takes the top spot as a potential cornerstone for the Brewers' future
With Willy Adames set to hit free agency and rumors swirling over his destination and what moves the Brewers could make, but Jesus Made headlines a strong group of players that have impressed in the minors and he has the potential to be the long-term shortstop moving forward.
The 17-year old signed in January of this year out of the Dominican Republic as part of Basilio Vizcaino, which is a member of MLB's Trainer Partnership Program. Made is good across the board with his scouting grades all being 50 and above. As a switch-hitter, he has good power from both sides of the plate and has a surprisingly good feel for the strike zone for someone at such a young age.
Milwaukee were known for their defensive strength and Made can fit just in, with great hands and smooth footwork that suggest a potential for an emerging defender, key to being a successful shortstop. If the future infield of the Brewers lands him and Brice Turang with Ortiz at the hot corner, then well, good luck getting to opposing teams getting the ball out of the infield.
With the DSL Brewers 1, Made had a really strong 51 games, hitting six home runs, 28 RBIs, stealing 28 bags and striking out just 28 times as well. All this was on splits of .331/.458/.554 with a 1.012 OPS. Compare this to Chourio's rookie season in the DSL, Made is a click above the outfielder in all aspects including batting splits.
BA also projected the 2028 Brewers lineup and had Made move to third with fellow prospect Cooper Pratt slotting in at shortstop. Now that could be a very fun left side to the infield with both players still young and showing signs of what could be a continued success of the Brewers in both the Minors and Major League. The Dominican has a 50 graded arm and 55 rated field and his plus defense would allow him to be flexible at playing shortstop and third base.
The short and long term future in Milwaukee is bright and this latest prospect ranking shows how the farm system has turned a new corner and the organization will continue to build on the success they are having throughout.
