On Tuesday morning, MLB Pipeline released a mid-season update of their Top-100 prospects list. In their previous update, which came back on May 11, two Milwaukee Brewers prospects saw their ranking rise significantly. Infielder Jesús Made jumped from 49 to 23 en route to overtaking Jeferson Quero as the Brewers’ top prospect, and Jacob Misiorowski jumped from 91 to 72.
Fast forward to yesterday, and Brewers fans are more than familiar with Misiorowski, who still holds his prospect status but is set to start tonight against the New York Mets at Citi Field. Meanwhile, another infield prospect, in addition to Made, is making serious noise and quickly climbing up the prospect rankings. Here are a few Brewers-related takeaways from MLB Pipeline's latest update.
Jesús Made is now a Top-10 prospect in all of baseball
As previously mentioned, Made climbed to 23 in MLB Pipeline's previous update, but his performance over the last two months, paired with the graduation of several top prospects, has resulted in him climbing even higher — this time into the top 10! Made now checks in as the 8th best prospect in all of baseball, and with three of the seven prospects ahead of him already making their MLB debuts and set to graduate from their prospect status in a few weeks, it won't be long before Made is a Top-5 prospect.
Made is more than deserving of the distinction. While his power has stalled a bit as of late, he's continued to show elite plate discipline — a rare trait for an 18-year-old — and his speed has been on full display, swiping 34 bases in 65 games this season. Making the jump to Low-A after playing his first season of professional baseball in the Dominican Summer League last season was not an easy task for the young switch-hitting infielder, but Made has met the challenge head-on and held his own against the better pitching.
For Brewers fans hoping to catch a glimpse of their top prospect and newly minted Top-10 prospect in baseball, tune in to the All-Star Futures Game at 3 p.m. CT on July 12 to see Made compete against the game's other top prospects. The Futures Game will air on MLB Network, and a simulcast will be available on MLB.com.
Jacob Misiorowski and Luis Peña receive significant jumps in their prospect rankings
While MLB Pipeline's previous update included impressive increases in prospect rankings for both Made and Misiorowski, with Made receiving the second-highest jump of any prospect, yesterday's update featured even more significant improvements for Miz and infielder Luis Peña, who plays alongside Made in Low-A for the Carolina Mudcats. Misiorowski and Peña were the two "highest risers" in MLB Pipeline's mid-season update. Miz jumped from 64 to 21 (his jump from 71 to 64 since the last update was due to other players graduating from their prospect status), and Peña jumped from 95 all the way up to the 35th best prospect in baseball.
Misiorowski's improvement shouldn't come as a shock to anyone. Since the last update, Miz has mowed down Triple-A hitters, been promoted to the big leagues, and been even better on a MLB mound. Proving that his success translates to the majors is more than enough to earn him a spot in the top 25. Miz and Brewers fans alike probably couldn't care less about his prospect ranking at this point — everyone's sights are set on what Miz is doing at the big league level. Besides, Misiorowski's prospect status will be up in a few weeks anyways.
Meanwhile, Peña, who is also just 18 years old, has posted comparable, if not better, stats than Made through each of their first two seasons of professional baseball. Made impressed scouts a season ago with his better plate discipline and higher power potential, but this year it's been Peña who has been the better hitter in almost every category. Both Made and Peña's development have been and will continue to be fun to watch, but Brewers fans will now do so knowing that each of them ranks in the top 35 of the best prospects in all of baseball.
Logan Henderson joins MLB Pipeline's Top 100 list
In addition to the rise of Made, Misiorowski, and Peña, the Brewers added a new prospect to MLB Pipeline's Top 100 list: Logan Henderson. Similar to Misiorowski, you might not think of Henderson as a prospect, but until he eclipses the 50-inning mark or spends 45 days on the Brewers’ active roster, he is still considered a prospect. However, now he should be referred to as a Top-100 prospect.
In addition to proving that he's more than ready for the big leagues, by posting a 1.71 ERA in four starts, Henderson has continued to shine against Triple-A competition. He holds a 3.12 ERA in 11 starts for the Nashville Sounds, and has struck out 68 batters in 57.2 IP.
Henderson's addition to the list now gives the Brewers six Top-100 prospects: Henderson, Made, Misirowoski, Peña, Cooper Pratt, and Jeferson Quero. Six is tied for the most in the National League with the Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds.
