Snow may be covering most of Wisconsin, but spring is on its way. Brewers pitchers and catchers reported to camp Wednesday, the first milestone of the start to the 2025 MLB season. As the players begin to report, we are beginning to get our first taste of roster news that will directly impact the team on the field.
The early parts of camp usually brings some fluff stories, outfits of the players as they report, the Racing Sausages helping unload gear, and many seasons ago, one little pup who wandered into the Brewers facility.
The beginning of camp is also the first chance to hear from the players and coaching staff. One one hand, the Brewers received some very positive news. Brandon Woodruff addressed the assembled media, and clarified a previous report from his manager. Initially feared that he would not be ready to start the season, stating that he is a full participant in Spring Training. However, as welcoming as that news was, manager Pat Murphy did have a darker message to deliver on a different member of the pitching staff.
Brewers' DL Hall shut down for at least the next 2 weeks
In his first media session of the 2025 season, skipper Pat Murphy stated that DL Hall had a "lat strain" and is going to be shut down for at least the next two weeks, before being re-evaluated as reported by Adam McCalvy and Todd Rosiak.

Manager Pat Murphy says he has a lat strain and is going to be sidelined for the next two weeks and then be re-evaluated.
In their latest pitching rotation projection, Bleacher Report had initially had DL Hall slated in the 5th spot, with Brandon Woodruff on the Injured List. While changing Woodruff for Hall would be ideal, life is often not that simple. Even if Woodruff is fully ready for Opening Day out in New York, Hall was factoring to be either a backend starter or bullpen piece who can eat innings or spot start if necessary.
Should Hall be unavailable to start the season in the rotation, Aaron Ashby would be the lone internal left handed starter to replace him, depending on the availability of Robert Gasser. The Brewers do have Nestor Cortes, who does have his own injury history, as a bonified lefty option as well. With Hall shutdown, and conflicting information on Brandon Woodruff, do the Brewers need to add one more starter? Time will tell.
