There is once again reason for concern regarding the health of Milwaukee Brewers' No. 2 prospect Luis Peña. On April 22, Peña collapsed in the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers' dugout during their game against the Fort Wayne TinCaps -- an incident that was ultimately attributed to dehydration.

Following that episode, he underwent an extensive medical evaluation, including consultations with a neurologist. Eventually, following a month away from the field, Peña was cleared to resume playing. After three games in the Arizona Complex League, during which Peña collected four hits, including two extra-base hits, he rejoined the High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on May 27. In just his second game back with the T-Rats, Peña reached base five times.

Unfortunately, just five games into his return from his month-long absence, it appears Peña may have experienced a similar episode, raising more questions about his health and prompting what will likely be another round of medical evaluations. Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel was the first to report the news last night.

Brewers' No. 2 prospect Luis Peña, who missed a month after a fainting episode, left Tuesday night's game early due to an illness

During the Timber Rattlers' June 2 game against Cedar Rapids, Peña was removed from the game while playing shortstop in the bottom of the second inning. According to reports from the ballpark, Peña appeared to bend over with his hands on his knees before being assisted off the field by the training staff and escorted to the dugout, where he reportedly became ill. Prior to his early exit, he had already made an impact offensively, collecting a single, a stolen base and run scored in the first inning before striking out in his second plate appearance.

Whether this latest incident was the result of an unrelated illness or if it is in connection to Peña's previous dehydration-related episode remains unclear. What is clear, however, is that the situation surrounding Peña has become increasingly concerning.

For a 19-year-old player to experience two significant health-related incidents in such a short span of time naturally raises questions, and it would not be surprising if the Brewers take an especially cautious approach as they work to determine the cause and ensure his long-term well-being.

As one of the organization's most talented young prospects, his development remains important, but his health is unquestionably the top priority. Until more information becomes available, all eyes will be on Milwaukee's next update as the club works to ensure that Peña can safely return to the field and continue what has otherwise been a promising season.
