Brewers' top prospect Jesús Made passes Jackson Chourio for Biloxi Shuckers' franchise record

Milwaukee Brewers' top prospect Jesús Made has not yet turned 20 years old, and yet he is already breaking records at the Double-A level. Made, who is not only the Brewers' top prospect but also the top prospect in all of baseball according to essentially every prospect evaluation publication, continues to follow in the footsteps of former top prospect Jackson Chourio, who has since emerged as a star outfielder at the major league level.

On Wednesday night, during the Shuckers' 9-2 victory over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the Miami Marlins' Double-A affiliate, Made passed Chourio for the most RBI in a single season in franchise history. In the ninth inning, Made bounced a groundball up the middle that scored Mark Coley II from second base and gave MLB's top prospect his 90th RBI of the campaign, passing Chourio, who collected 89 RBI for the Shuckers during the 2023 season.

It's not just the fact that Made and Chourio are now No. 1 and No. 2 in the Shuckers' record books for most RBI in a single season that leads to comparisons between the two; the pair has had an eerily similar path through the minor leagues. Standout performances in the Dominican Summer League during their inaugural professional seasons led each to skip the Arizona Complex League and jump right to Low-A during the following season. In that following season, both Chourio and Made advanced to Double-A during the final month of the campaign.

In their third year in the minor leagues, despite it being their age-19 seasons, both Made and Chourio began the year in Double-A, and put together incredibly similar performances for the Biloxi Shuckers. Take a look at just how close their stat lines in Double-A truly are.

Made (2026): .270/.345/.430, .775 OPS, 44 extra-base hits, 14 HR, 90 RBI, 36 SB

Chourio (2023): .280/.336/.467, .803 OPS, 48 extra-base hits, 22 HR, 89 RBI, 43 SB

Made still has four more games in Double-A to make those two stat lines even more similar. Back in 2023, Chourio was promoted to Triple-A on September 18 following the completion of the Shuckers' season, and subsequently played just six games for the Nashville Sounds before signing a record-breaking contract during the offseason and then starting in right field for the Brewers on Opening Day 2024.

Therefore, for Made to continue following in Chourio's footsteps, he would have to be promoted to Triple-A in a week (though that might be complicated by the fact that the Shuckers are in the Southern League playoffs this year and weren't back in 2023) before signing a long-term deal this offseason and then making the Brewers Opening Day roster in 2027. MLB's anticipated lockout this offseason could certainly complicate that path, but in terms of the numbers, Made has shown that he's just as ready for a big next step as Chourio was back in 2023.

Made undoubtedly lived up to the hype of being the top prospect in baseball this year. He might not have the eye-popping home run numbers of someone like Andrew Fischer or Blake Burke, but the fact that Made is breaking Double-A records at just 19 years old is unbelievably impressive. His 2026 season will certainly make for some interesting offseason conversations in the Brewers' front office.
