There's no denying the Brewers have a star waiting in the wings.

The future is bright in Milwaukee, that much is clear. With the best farm system in baseball, according to essentially every publication that evaluates prospects, the Milwaukee Brewers are likely to keep their window of contention open for several years to come.

Leading the way is 19-year-old shortstop Jesús Made, who, despite currently being the youngest player at the Double-A level, has 11 extra-base hits, 20 RBI, and 15 stolen bases in 34 games with the Biloxi Shuckers. The combination of his production and his youth has cemented Made as the top prospect in a stacked Brewers minor league system.

However, as play begins on May 14, Made isn't just at the top of the Brewers' prospect rankings list; he now also holds the title of "No. 1 prospect in all of baseball." That's right, the best future star resides in the Brewers' farm system.

Jesús Made becomes the first Milwaukee Brewer to be named MLB Pipeline's No. 1 overall prospect in baseball

Despite the impressive amount of hype that Jackson Chourio received during his final years in the minor leagues, when he was a fixture at the top of every prospect rankings list, the Brewers' star outfielder never reached the No. 1 spot on MLB Pipeline's oft-cited list. Baseball America, another very popular prospect evaluation publication, did name Chourio their top overall prospect in baseball. However, when it comes to MLB Pipeline, the publication affiliated with MLB itself, Chourio was stuck in the No. 2 spot before he eventually graduated from his prospect status during the 2024 season.

Therefore, while Made isn't the first Brewers prospect to be named the top overall prospect by any publication, he is the first to be named the No. 1 prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline, which is undoubtedly an impressive feat for the young infielder.

Made began the 2026 season as the No. 3 prospect in baseball, trailing only Konnor Griffin of the Pittsburgh Pirates, who was the consensus No. 1 overall prospect heading into the campaign, and Kevin McGonigle of the Detroit Tigers. Both Griffin and McGonigle are shortstops themselves, and earned impressive long-term contracts from their respective teams shortly after making their MLB debuts. Griffin signed a nine-year, $140 million contract with the Pirates while McGonigle inked an eight-year, $150 million deal with the Tigers.

Since signing those deals, both Griffin and McGonigle are now busy settling into the big leagues and each of them has subsequently graduated from their prospect status. To graduate from prospect status, players need to either log 130 at-bats, 50 innings pitched, or 45 days on an active big-league roster. Neither has yet spent 45 days on a big league roster, but McGonigle passed the 130 at-bat mark in early May, and Griffin did so in last night's game against the Colorado Rockies. As a result, with neither holding the prospect title any longer, Made has assumed the top spot on Pipeline's coveted list.

Rankings only mean so much, but when this many prospect evaluators agree that there is no better prospect than Made, it's fair to assume the young infielder is one day going to be a star. While Brewers fans are hoping that day is sooner rather than later, they may still have to wait one more season. However, assuming Made follows a similar path to Chourio, it's not out of the question that he's on the 2027 Opening Day roster.
