On Saturday afternoon, Milwaukee Brewers flame-throwing ace, Jacob Misiorowski, was named a 2026 All-Star. After surprisingly earning a spot in the 2025 Midsummer Classic following just five starts at the major league level, Miz's selection to the 2026 All-Star Game was about as unsurprising of a pick as there was this year.
Misiorowski, who is currently the odds-on favorite to win the NL Cy Young Award this season, has not only been the best pitcher on the Senior Circuit, but the 24-year-old right-hander has been better than any starter in MLB in 2026. While setting practically every record for velocity from a starting pitcher, Miz is maintaining the best ERA, best WHIP, lowest opponent batting average, and most strikeouts of any qualified starter in baseball.
Naturally, given Misiorowski's dominance in 2026, conversations regarding the flame-thrower starting the All-Star Game for the National League have already begun. Miz is the perfect combination of being deserving of an All-Star Game start and the type of must-watch TV that MLB wants from their All-Star Game starters.
Unfortunately, the Brewers' schedule may get in the way of Misiorowski earning a start in next week's Midsummer Classic. Miz is scheduled to start Game 1 of tomorrow's doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals, meaning, if the Brewers keep him on normal rest, he would pitch again on Sunday, in the Brewers' first-half finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Such a schedule, which feels very likely now that Brandon Woodruff will be unavailable for the Brewers' eight games in seven days this week, would obviously prevent Miz from pitching in next Tuesday's All-Star Game.
However, there's always the chance that Sunday's game in Pittsburgh gets cancelled due to weather, and Misiorowski himself appears to be rooting for such an outcome.
A rainout in Pittsburgh this weekend has benefits for the Brewers beyond allowing Jacob Misiorowski to pitch in the All-Star Game
It feels like every time the Brewers visit PNC Park in Pittsburgh, at least one of their games against the Pirates gets delayed or postponed due to rain. Of all the series for rain to impact, this upcoming weekend's three-gamer would be one of the best.
For starters, assuming either Sunday's game gets rained out or one of the earlier games does and isn't made up with a doubleheader on Sunday, Misiorowski's start would be delayed until after the All-Star Break, and the Brewers' ace would be able to start the Midsummer Classic next week. It's a reality that Miz would be more than fine with.
In an interview with Bob Nightengale and USA Today, Misiorowski was quoted saying, "I need it to rain all day...Obviously, with weather in the Midwest, you never know." That quote was actually in reference to the Brewers' doubleheader in St. Louis getting postponed, but when asked about Sunday's game potentially being postponed, Misiorowski responded, "That would work, too."
While seeing Miz pitch in the All-Star Game would obviously be a positive side effect of one of the Brewers' eight games this week being postponed due to rain, there are other benefits for the team as well. For one, the Brewers are on a streak of 27 games in 27 days leading up to the All-Star Break, eight of which will come over the next seven days. Their pitching staff is taxed to say the least, and a surprise off day during the week would certainly be welcome so long as it doesn't result in another doubleheader before the break. The Brewers visit the Pirates again in mid-September directly after an off-day, so rescheduling one of their games this weekend to that series would certainly not be the end of the world.
For Misiorowski specifically, avoiding two more starts before the break also has benefits beyond his All-Star Game availability. The Brewers' ace has already thrown 104 innings this year, which is just 25.1 innings less than the career-high that he set last year in Triple-A and MLB. To make a postseason run in 2026, the Brewers will certainly need Miz to be at full strength in October, so any opportunity to limit his innings in the short term that doesn't impact the team's ability to win games should be taken. An unexpected off-day this week would slow down Miz's schedule while allowing him to showcase his talent in the All-Star Game.
There's no predicting the weather, especially in Pittsburgh, and the Brewers need to be ready to play eight games this week, but there are certainly some positive side effects to one of their games leading up to the All-Star Break being postponed to the second half of the season.
