Fans hoping Brewers' decision to pull Jacob Misiorowski in MLB debut was precautionary

The Milwaukee Brewers could not have asked for anything more in Jacob Misiorowski's MLB debut — except for the rookie flamethrower to avoid rolling his ankle while walking back up the mound following his third pitch in the sixth inning. Up to that point, Miz tossed five no-hit innings while striking out five St. Louis Cardinals hitters and breaking records with his elite velocity.

As covered earlier today in an article from Reviewing the Brew regarding Misiorowski's last three starts in Triple-A, Miz hasn't tested his pitch count in recent weeks. In fact, he averaged just 68 pitches per start in his last four starts for the Nashville Sounds before being promoted to the big league roster. With that in the back of his mind, manager Pat Murphy, who has notably not allowed his starters to face a lineup three times through this season, was probably searching for an excuse to pull his talented young right-hander, and the hopefully minor injury to his ankle was the perfect excuse.

Misiorowski in good spirits as he exits debut with apparent minor injury

The big smile planted on Misiorowski's face as he walked off the mound, despite just being pulled after rolling his ankle, hopefully is a sign that the injury is not too severe. Nonetheless, Brewers fans, who have dealt with injury after injury to their starting pitching depth, collectively paused before applauding him for his stellar debut.

Miz was at just 81 pitches and looked poised to cover the sixth if his manager allowed him to. But Murphy and company, sitting on a six-run lead, took the safe route and turned to their bullpen for the rest of the game.

The combination of Misiorowski's reaction, Murphy's quickness to pull his starters this season, and Miz's recently lower pitch count indicates that the injury isn't anything to worry about too much. As revealed by Sophia Minnaert on the Fan Duel Sports Network Wisconsin broadcast and Todd Rosiak on X, Misiorowski officially left the game with right calf and quad cramping.

More information should surface in the coming hours, but for now, Misiorowski's injury does not appear to be something to worry about, but rather a precautionary move from the Brewers who have to be overjoyed with their top pitching prospect's performance tonight.

After tonight's performance, it's practically a certainty that Miz will remain in the starting rotation and make his next start in five days’ time. If he can even come close to the success that he had tonight, Miz will be a huge addition to the Brewers pitching staff for the rest of the season.
