Almost everything went exactly right for the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday afternoon in their emphatic Game 1 win over the Chicago Cubs to kick off the 2025 NLDS. The Brewers grabbed a huge early lead thanks to a six-run first inning and a three-run second, allowing them to control the game as they wished.

Freddy Peralta was excellent in his 5.2 innings of work, striking out nine Cubs, while surrendering just two earned runs on two solo homers: one by Michael Busch to start the game, and another by Ian Happ in the sixth inning just before he was pulled. The Brewers' ace turned things over to the team's talented relief core, and the combination of Aaron Ashby, Jared Koenig, and Nick Mears expertly finished out the last 10 outs.

It was mostly a stress-free victory for the Brew Crew after the first two frames, but one development left Brewers fans slightly uneasy as they celebrated their Game 1 victory. In the second inning, after hustling down the first base line to beat out an infield single, Jackson Chourio pulled up and slowly returned to first base with a grimace on his face. After a meeting between Chourio, Pat Murphy, first-base coach Julio Borbon, and team athletic trainer Brad Epstein, the decision was made to pull Chourio from the game. Despite holding a 9-1 lead over their heated division rivals at the time, the mood among Brewers fans in American Family Field shifted, with the status of their talented young outfielder in question.

Luckily, Chourio addressed the media after the game and reassured the Milwaukee faithful that they don't have anything to worry about.

Jackson Chourio says he's feeling good after injury scare resulted in his removal from Game 1 of NLDS

In front of a room of team insiders, Jackson Chourio and interpreter Daniel de Mondesert answered question after question about the hamstring tightness that pulled him from Game 1 against the Cubs on Saturday afternoon. MLB.com's Adam McCalvy captured the most important quotes from the Brewers' star outfielder, and the message is clear: Chourio is going to be okay.

As subtly noted by McCalvy, the Brewers' manager, Pat Murphy, was not nearly as optimistic about Chourio's health during his postgame comments this afternoon. However, Chourio was much more reassuring in his address, saying all of the right things: that he feels good, the move was precautionary, and he's ready to keep competing.

Presumably, all of those encouraging words point to Chourio being able to play in Game 2 of the NLDS, which is set to take place on Monday night. With an off-day tomorrow, and seemingly no concerns from Chourio himself, it's very unlikely that the 21-year-old star would be kept out of the lineup on Monday.

It's a huge sigh of relief for Brewers fans who not only saw one of the best postseason performances in Brewers history this afternoon, but also know what it feels like to lose an important piece late in the season. The combination of those two realities would have left Brewers fans in the "what if" line of thinking, but if Chourio's comments hold true, they have nothing to worry about.
