Following the passing of the legendary Bob Uecker in January 2025, the Milwaukee Brewers' second season without their dear friend and iconic broadcaster will end with a chance at history: winning the franchise's first World Series.

Even before Uecker’s passing, the Brewers and their fans were desperate to win a title in his honor. Uecker had devoted 54 years of his life to calling Brewers games from the broadcast booth, which followed a six-year career as a Major League Baseball player that included a World Series win in 1964 as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Beyond baseball, Uecker was also a talented actor and made several appearances on The Tonight Show, which elevated his fame and popularity. Despite his success, he remained devoted to baseball and the Brewers, making his commitment to a small-market franchise like Milwaukee even more special.

However, a string of recent heartbreaking playoff losses prevented Milwaukee from returning to and winning the World Series before Uecker passed. The Brewers fell to the Atlanta Braves in 2021, who went on to win the World Series, and the Arizona Diamondbacks, who captured the National League pennant, in 2023. Their postseason hopes were dashed once again in 2024 when Pete Alonso delivered a dramatic, ninth-inning go-ahead home run, ending Milwaukee’s season and leaving fans longing for one more opportunity to celebrate a championship with Uecker.

That moment never came, as Uecker passed away during the subsequent offseason. However, the motto “Do It for Ueck” has endured throughout the past two seasons, including last year when Milwaukee’s championship hopes once again came to a crushing end after being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS. Now, after returning the favor, the Brewers have punched their ticket to the World Series, with the championship series set to run through Milwaukee.

Jeff Levering pays homage to Bob Uecker's line from movie Major League in pennant-winning call

As the final out was recorded in the Brewers' 6-4 Game 4 victory against the Dodgers in the 2026 NLCS, Jeff Levering, who spent years alongside Uecker in the radio booth, paid tribute to his longtime colleague and friend by referencing a line from Uecker's character "Harry Doyle" from the hit movie Major League, ensuring the late broadcaster's presence was felt in a moment he had long hoped to witness.

Levering's perfect call of the moment the Brewers captured the 2026 pennant is one that not only will be remembered forever by fans, but one that will always spark a memory of Uecker's incredible life and the impact he had on this franchise.

For a team that has endured years of heartbreak, missed opportunities, and postseason disappointment, this run to the World Series represents something far greater than baseball. It is a chance to honor the man who became the voice of the franchise for more than half a century.

The journey is not yet complete, but one thing is certain: Uecker's presence will be felt during the Brewers' first World Series appearance since 1982. And if the Brewers can finish the job and bring a championship home to Milwaukee, they then will most certainly say "We did it for Ueck".
