The playoffs are the time of year when we see local businesses try to capitalize on baseball fever to gain publicity and give back to their communities at the same time. Promotions run rampant as establishments try to capture fans' attention and make a buck or two along the way. While the Milwaukee Brewers have already been eliminated, one local brewery has still found a way to get in on the action.
Most Brewers fans are well aware of Jesse Winker's comments about the city of Milwaukee and what they stem from. Winker showed his true character when he got into it with Willy Adames and, well, basically the entire Brewers roster during the Wild Card round and it has been all bad blood ever since.
In the wake of Winker's comments about how he hated the city, the Broken Bat Brewery decided to take advantage of the opportunity while also supporting the people of Milwaukee and taking a clever dig at Winker along the way. After posting a particularly easy Twitter likes goal, the brewery is going to allow customers to purchase $1.99 pints on Thursday, October 9 in honor of Winker's batting average with the Brewers.
Brewers fans hating Jesse Winker is turning into big business in Milwaukee with brewery's genius promotion
This promotion is honestly perfect. One, it involves beer in one of the great beer cities of the world. Two, it is a timely promotion that capitalizes on a truly reviled figure in Winker that has the added nice touch of poking fun at Winker's abysmal performance with the Brewers. It is probably fair to say that turnout at Broken Bat tomorrow is going to be substantial. The event would only be sweeter if the Brewers hadn't already been eliminated, but we can't have everything we want.
All of the usual warnings apply here. With $1.99 pints, fans dollars are going to go a long way so make sure to drink responsibly and have a designated driver and/or Uber handy to take you home. If you possess one of the four or so Winker jerseys that folks somehow made the choice to buy (probably on clearance) and feel the need to burn them, make sure to follow local ordinances and don't damage others property in the process. Despite what Winker thinks, Milwaukee is better than that.
It is honestly great to see a local business take up for the Brewers and turn a negative story of bitterness and disappointment into a positive. Hopefully next season we can see more promotions like this that celebrate the Brewers making it a further in the playoffs.
