It's been one week since the Milwaukee Brewers returned Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn to their lineup, and in that span, the Brew Crew picked up their first sweep of the New York Yankees since 1989. Coincidence? I think not. Though the Brewers didn't necessarily overpower the Yankees -- scoring 14 runs in the three-game set -- there's no denying that the offense was completely revived by the returns of Chourio and Vaughn.
Now, the Brewers are returning even more thump to their lineup ahead of a home series against the San Diego Padres that begins tonight. Somewhat out of the blue, the Brewers just announced that Christian Yelich is returning to the lineup tonight after about a month on the injured list with a left groin strain. To make room on the 26-man roster, the Brewers have optioned Tyler Black to Triple-A.

Christian Yelich reinstated from injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against San Diego, Tyle Black optioned to Triple-A
When a player has as much experience at the big-league level as Yelich does, it's not uncommon for them to return to the roster without a rehab assignment. Even still, the announcement came as a surprise as there was very little news on the state of Yelich's injury prior to him being added back to the active roster.
It's an exciting development for the Brewers, who build off the momentum of their three-game sweep of the Yankees by returning their veteran leader to the middle of their lineup. For the first time this season, the Brewers' offense is finally at full strength.
Yelich was swinging a hot bat before he landed on the IL, with a .314 batting average and .826 OPS to prove it. He posted just one homer and four extra base hits through the first few weeks of the season, but the homer was an important one, and Yelich still racked up 10 RBI in his abbreviated start to the campaign.
Meanwhile, it's tough news for Tyler Black, who, despite not possessing the underlying metrics to back them up, was putting together strong surface-level numbers in the big leagues. Black was certainly the beneficiary of some unlikely hits, and even some unlikely doubles, but a slash line of .333/.357/.481 had to be building his confidence after his first few stints in MLB didn't go according to plan. Black will head back to Triple-A and try to keep the momentum going as he awaits his next opportunity.
With Yelich, Chourio, and Vaughn all back in the lineup, Brewers fans will finally get an idea of what this offense can do at full strength. Milwaukee has managed to score the eighth most runs in baseball without having all three players in the lineup at the same time, but now their bats can really take off.
