Every team that wins the World Series has one or two postseason heroes that nobody saw coming. As important as stars may be, baseball is a team sport that takes all 26 guys on the roster. Sometimes, in the biggest games and the biggest moments, it's not the biggest names that shine through. That's the beauty of baseball.

As the Milwaukee Brewers prepare for their upcoming playoff run after a magical 2025 regular season, the focus now is on which player is next up to become a postseason hero.

Sal Frelick picked as under-the-radar postseason star by MLB insider

In a recent story from the insiders of MLB.com, David Adler chose Brewers outfielder Sal Frelick as an "under-the-radar pick" to be a postseason star in 2025.

"The "big" names in the Brewers lineup are Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, and William Contreras. Not exactly Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani. But that's the way the Brewers like it. Everybody hits on this team, and in the playoffs, at least one of those pesky bats is going to come through with a bunch of big hits. Our bet's on Frelick," writes David Adler of MLB.com.

Frelick's strikeout rate (13.5 percent) and whiff rate (12.7 percent), which are both elite measures, were cited as a reason to believe he can come up clutch in the playoffs.

"Hitters like him can be extremely frustrating to face in the postseason, when free outs are already hard enough to come by. That goes especially for situations with runners on base," Adler continued.

There's certainly evidence to support the idea that Sal Frelick is a great guy to have in a playoff lineup. He's batting .316 with a home run, a double, and an .826 OPS in five career playoff games. In 2025, Frelick is hitting .303 with runners in scoring position.

Frelick is always going to put together a competitive, professional at-bat. Playoff baseball is all about capitalizing on mistakes, and that's his game in a nutshell.

No team had a higher OPS or batting average in the 2024 postseason than the Milwaukee Brewers. That didn't seem to matter. Timely hitting and a reliable bullpen are what get a team from one series to the next.

Milwaukee has one of the better bullpens in the playoff picture, but they'll need someone to come up with the big hits to keep the magic rolling to the World Series. Hopefully, MLB.com is right, and Sal Frelick makes himself a household name over the next few weeks.
