For Milwaukee Brewers fans, the main takeaway from Tuesday was another disappointing playoff loss to a Mets team that they should have been able to handle. New York was coming directly from having to play a doubleheader against the Braves on Monday while the Brewers were able to prepare and rest ahead of time. However, the playoff proceedings also included some surprising and rather heated drama involving former Brewer Jesse Winker.
In the third inning, Winker roped a two-run triple that got the Mets back in the game after the Brewers took an early lead. However, things took quite a turn during the play as Winker started yelling at Willy Adames and/or others while rounding the bases and then continued to spar with Adames after he reached third.
What was unclear was exactly why Winker and Adames were going at each other in the first place and what they were saying. Well, the fine folks at Jomboy Media had the world covered there (this audio is most certainly NSFW and not for tender ears, so exercise caution).
Jesse Winker clearly has some issues to work through, but the cause remains uncertain
Well, we learned a few things from the above clip. One, Winker really loves to let the F-word fly at every available opportunity. Given the steady decline of his career the last couple of years, we suppose that getting all of that out of his system when he can makes a certain amount of sense. Also, we learned that Willy Adames isn't the least bit afraid to stand up for himself and his teammates. Good on him for doing so while not getting tossed in the process. There has been no word that Adames and Winker did, in fact, meet up in the parking lot to sort things out.
After the game, the explanation from the two sides was telling. Adames expressed confusion as to what Winker's deal was, but also threw some major shade Winker's way by saying that, "I think that’s just the kind of player he is. It is what it is.” Meanwhile, Winker completely avoided answering any questions at all about the altercation and said, "I don’t really want to speak on it, I just want to focus on the game tomorrow." Sure, buddy.
Winker just comes off like a loud mouth clown in all of this and he certainly has a history of being such. There has been some speculation that Winker still holds a grudge from getting hit by a pitch from Frankie Montas at the end of September which is entirely possible. However, his chirping at the Brewers after one decent swing could be the motivation Milwaukee needs to get back in this series.
