Brewers: No. 1 prospect Jackson Chourio moves up to Triple-A Nashville

The Milwaukee Brewers have a plethora of highly-rated prospects throughout their affiliates and all the way up to the Majors with the likes of Sal Frelick and Brice Turang making the step up this season. The No. 1 prospect in the franchise, and according to MLB.com is the No. 2 prospect in all of baseball, is outfielder Jackson Chourio.

Finally, the Brewers have promoted Chourio to Triple-A Nashville following a very successful time playing Double-A Biloxi. At just 19 years old the future is incredibly bright for Chourio and he can be a real cornerstone to the franchise for coming years, building a strong, young core for the club.

Chourio played his final game at Double-A Biloxi this weekend, ending his time there with 143 total hits, including 22 home runs and 89 RBIs with a .280 batting average. This was in 510 plate appearances but he is also a big threat on the base, totaling 43 stolen bases in his 122 games at Double-A.

The Venezuelan native has also started to get hot at the right time to join Nashville for the final week of the regular season. Since July he has ranked in the top 10 for OPS with .939 and an SLG of .559. To make these numbers even more impressive, he's doing all that while still only the fourth youngest hitter in the league and will become the youngest player to be playing Triple-A baseball. He now has six games in Nashville to show his ability and how he can adapt to the step up.

Jackson Holliday of the Baltimore Orioles, the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball, and Chourio are the only two players to be called up to Triple-A this season as teenagers and both have huge potential to become real superstars in the majors.

Having just signed with the Brewers in 2021, the rise of Chourio has been incredible and the sky really is the limit for him as a player. The Brewers are clearly looking to push Chourio and he's answered every single time and continuing to get better. This promotion is well deserved and his ability has been recognized before as he featured in the 2022 All-Star Futures Game, being the only player involved with a 2004 birthdate. He was again selected to the 2023 Futures Game.

Chourio has all the tools to be a part of the Brewers 2024 Opening Day roster, which he will now be working towards along with participating in Spring Training. The right-hander has the ability to hit to all parts of the field and his contact at the plate is always impressive. His 70-grade speed is a real asset at both sides of the plate, allowing him to steal bases and cover ground in the outfield whilst being a valuable defensive asset.

This is a huge step up to higher level of ball and there are a few things Chourio will look to work on. His zone coverage and discipline will be tested up against high level pitching but these are things that he improved on during the latter half of his time in Double-A.

Chourio is unlikely to see time in the Majors this year as the Brewers have a solid outfield as it stands. Christian Yelich, Mark Canha and Tyrone Taylor provide experience whilst the youth of Sal Frelick is exuberant and Garrett Mitchell is close to returning for the final week of the season.

The aim for Chourio will be to make the Opening Day roster next year but as mentioned the Brewers have a plethora of options in the outfield already and so there is no need for action just yet. However, Chourio's ceiling is much higher than anyone else the Brewers have in that group and he could quickly prove himself ready for a big league opportunity.

It will be exciting to see what Jackson Chourio can do in the final six games of Triple-A baseball, but there is no limit as to how far he can go and there is a reason he is the Brewers No. 1 prospect.
