Milwaukee Brewers probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Cleveland Guardians, August 16
Next up on the docket for the Brewers: the best team in baseball.
The Brewers just squeaked past the Dodgers and escaped with a series split and their reward is to get stuck with the Cleveland Guardians, the best team in baseball, for a three-game weekend series. The Guardians are 72-49 with a .595 winning percentage, which is good for the top spot in the game. Their lineup has left a bit to be desired throughout the year, but it's their pitching staff that's truly lethal, as they sit fifth in the sport in ERA.
Probable pitchers
- For the Brewers, former Guardians hurler Aaron Civale is set to make his 18th start of the year and seventh in a Brewers uniform. The right-hander has been "just okay" this year, sporting an ERA of 5.02 through 118.1 innings of work. He's been a durable innings eater for the Crew, but it's worth asking the question if his acquisition was enough of a needle-mover to help the Brewers in their postseason run.
- Promising right-hander Gavin Williams will take the ball and make his ninth start of the season. Williams, 25, is looking to branch off of a successful 16-start showing in the big leagues last year, but injuries have held him back in 2024. He's got a 4.38 ERA and 3.18 FIP through 39 innings, striking out just a hair under 10 batters per nine innings.
