The Milwaukee Brewers had a solid MLB Draft this year, earning positive reviews from around the industry and a B+ letter grade from Bleacher Report once the dust settled.

One of the players selected was catcher Marcos Dinges, who joined the organization as a fourth-round selection out of Florida State University down in Tallahassee, FL. He was an offensive standout in college, having hit 15 home runs with 69 RBI in just 64 games, good for a .323 batting average and .998 OPS.

Off the field, Dinges is a trooper who only just recently was battling a life-threatening condition. Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH for short) is rare disorder that can be quickly described as one that affects one's immune system and can result in multi-organ failure. As of February, 2023, the mortality rate was 40 percent.

Dinges spent 43 days in two hospitals last year battling for his life and eventually beginning the recovery process. He returned to college and helped FSU reach the College World Series. Not too long down the road, he made his professional debut for the Low-A Carolina Mudcats.

In his first game as a pro on Tuesday night, he notched his first career base hit. He went 1-for-4 with a run scored in his debut.

The Brewers organization has had no shortage of positive vibes from top to bottom all year. At the big league level, the Crew is absolutely rolling right now and is a legitimate contender for a World Series ring a few months from now. Down on the farm, multiple players continue to represent the organization in industry-wide prospect rankings.

It's nice to see Dinges overcome so much and get that first hit out of the way. The Brewers drafted him as a catcher despite the fact that he only spent one game behind the dish in college. The belief is that he could conceivably move to first base or a corner outfield spot if his career as a catcher doesn't take off.

As relayed by Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, Brewers VP of domestic scouting Tod Johnson said that Dinges is tough and that he hasn't spent a ton of time at catcher, but the organization likes his tools to stick back there and Dinges himself wants to give it a shot.
