The Brewers' regular season is over, and they still don't know their playoff opponent

It'll be another 24 hours or so until Milwaukee learns who they will be playing on Tuesday.

Today, the Milwaukee Brewers played the 162nd of 162 games on their regular season schedule. They have been set to be the No. 3 seed in the playoffs for a few days now after clinching their spot in the postseason with a second straight NL Central title.

And yet, they still don't know who they'll be playing in the Wild Card round just two days from now.

The Brewers had a chance to inject chaos into the NL Wild Card race and that's exactly what they did this weekend. The Crew's loss on Sunday to wrap up their season means that there is a three-way tie for both the second and third Wild Card spots.

The three teams still vying for those spots are the Atlanta Braves, New York Mets (each of whom have 88-72 records), and Arizona Diamondbacks (89-73). And while the Diamondbacks ended their regular season on Sunday like the Brewers did, the Braves and Mets weren't so lucky.

That's because last week, the Mets and Braves had two games postponed do to Hurricane Helene's path being set to come through Georgia, where their games were being played at the time. Those games were rescheduled for tomorrow to be played as a doubleheader.

Depending on the results of those two games, the Brewers could end up playing any of the three teams in this week's best-of-three Wild Card series. Here is how it all breaks down at this point.

The first scenario would be a doubleheaders split between the Mets and Braves. This would create a true three-way tie for the final two Wild Card spots. Should that happen, it would be the Mets heading right back to Milwaukee right after losing their series here this weekend..

The other two scenarios would be either the Mets or Braves sweeping the doubleheader. Should either team accomplish that feat, it would be the Diamondbacks playing the Brewers in the Wild Card round for the second straight year. Brewers fans would then be hoping for a different result than last season's two-game sweep at the hands of Arizona.

No matter what happens tomorrow, playoff baseball is back in Milwaukee for the second straight year. Enjoy it, regardless of who the team ends up playing.
