The Milwaukee Brewers have an enviable surplus of outfield talent. They could use that surplus to address other areas of need at the Trade Deadline.

While there have been some rumors indicating that Garrett Mitchell could be traded to help address pitching needs, there's another outfielder from the Brewers 2020 Draft class that could be on the move.

Joey Wiemer has almost been a forgotten piece of the Brewers outfield picture because of his struggles in his rookie year and the slow start to this season after undergoing radical swing changes. Jackson Chourio, Blake Perkins, and Sal Frelick have all also solidified themselves in the big leagues, leaving little room for Wiemer in Milwaukee.

Joey Wiemer's trade value is trending up at the right time

In the month of July, Joey Wiemer is hitting .351/.507/.544 with five doubles, two homers, and 17 walks to just 12 strikeouts. The swing changes he's made appear to finally be working.

On the season now, Wiemer is hitting a much more respectable .246/.390/.364 with a .754 OPS. The power hasn't quite arrived yet, but the patience at the plate with the high OBP and walk rate is a good sign. The strength hasn't gone anywhere and the power will return as he continues to get comfortable.

It took some adjusting, and he's brought back the bat wiggle, but his hands are staying high, which is good. Now that these changes are taking hold and seeing results, Wiemer's value is rising.

While the big league results were not good in 2024 in an extremely limited sample size, Wiemer has talent to dream on with a power/speed combination. He could find big league success if he goes to a team with enough patience and playing time available to give to him. Selling teams could give him that opportunity.

Teams that are looking for a major league-ready outfielder with upside can take a chance on Wiemer in a return for one of their starting pitchers.

Milwaukee is searching for a left handed bat and starting pitching at the Trade Deadline. Trading away Garrett Mitchell from the outfield, as a left handed hitter, wouldn't compute. But Wiemer, a righty, would make a lot more sense for the Brewers to part with.

Whatever trade value Wiemer has, it's trending upward because of his play over the last month. It may not be as high as it once was, but it's higher than it's been in a while. The Trade Deadline is on Tuesday. Other teams are going to be scouting the Brewers system and the new look Wiemer is going to be opening eyes.
