A three-game sweep over the white hot Cleveland Guardians has the vibes feeling higher than ever for the Milwaukee Brewers. The club is now winners of five in a row and is still the proud owner of one of the league's best run differential.
Right in the middle of all of the chaos is Willy Adames, who is once again one of the top producers at shortstop in all of baseball. The pending free agent has 28 doubles, 22 home runs and 85 RBI in 124 games, good for a 116 OPS+ that puts him 16 percent above league-average at the dish.
He's been Mr. Consistency this year and is setting himself up for quite the payday in a few months. One stat that points to his consistency over everything else has been his durability. As they say, availability is the best ability, and Adames has taken that to heart.
Willy Adames attempting to play all 162 this year
Entering Monday's action (or a well deserved off day for the Brewers), Adames leads the league in games played with 124, which means he's played every single game of the year so far. Typically, a player who appears in every game of the year earns the label of "Iron Man", which would be fitting in his case.
Should he pull off this feat, he'd be the first Brewers player to do so since all the way back in 2011 when Prince Fielder played all 162 regular season games. Fielder had also done this in 2009, and before that the last player to do so in a Brewers uniform was Carlos Lee back in 2005.
This is really an accomplishment that isn't seen very much in today's game. Going back a few years, it hasn't been done by many players at all.
- 2023 - 4 (Matt Olson, Marcus Semien, Juan Soto, Eugenio Suarez)
- 2022 - 2 (Olson, Dansby Swanson)
- 2021 - 2 (Semien, Whit Merrifield)
- 2019 - 5 (Semien, Merrifield, Jorge Soler, Starlin Castro, Jonathan Villar)
Outside of a down month of June in which he hit just .167 in 27 games, Adames has remained consistent in his production as the 2024 campaign has gone on. In fact, he's gotten better as the end of the year inches closer.
In July, he hit four home runs with a .312 average and .885 OPS through 24 contests. His first 16 games in the month of August have seen him hit five home runs with a .288 average and .937 OPS. He's heating up for the stretch, which should work nicely as the Brewers look to make it back to the postseason once again.
