The 2026 Brewers' latest accomplishment puts them in a tier above any other team in franchise history

The Milwaukee Brewers kicked off their penultimate home series of the 2026 regular season with an emphatic defeat of their division rivals, the Cincinnati Reds. The Brewers won by a score of 20-0, which is the second time this year they've shut out their opponent while scoring 20 or more runs, a feat that has never been accomplished in MLB history.

Making last night's defeat of the last-place Reds even more impressive is the fact that Milwaukee needed a victory to clinch their eighth postseason berth in the last nine seasons. The Brewers are officially returning to the playoffs, but have their sights set on larger goals, like winning the NL Central, securing a first-round bye, and ultimately winning a World Series championship. Even still, the fact that the small-market Brewers have become the pinnacle of sustained success over the past decade is incredibly impressive.

That said, amid this Golden Age of Brewers' baseball, the 2026 squad has now put themselves in a tier of their own. With their postseason-clinching victory over the Reds last night, the 2026 Brewers improved their season record to an unbelievable 92-56. While that record alone is eye-popping, it's made even more incredible by the fact that no other Brewers team throughout the history of the franchise has ever been 36 games above .500.

What's next for the 2026 Brewers after reaching 36 games above .500 for the first time in franchise history?

It's an unbelievable feat, especially when considering all of the successful teams in franchise history. Between the 1979, 1982, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2025 Brewers teams, all of whom won at 95 games or more, not a single Brewers team has ever been 36 games over .500 until the 2026 squad. Despite the injuries to Brandon Woodruff and Quinn Priester, despite relying on one of the most inexperienced starting rotations in baseball, despite having three players in the starting lineup who are 22 years old or younger, the 2026 Brewers have been the most successful team in franchise history at this point in the season. But they aren't done yet.

The 2026 squad still has a number of records still in shouting distance. The most notable is the most wins in a single regular season in franchise history. The 2025 team broke that record just one year ago by winning 97 games, but this year's team has a real chance to quickly set a new franchise record. With 14 games left to go, and needing just six wins to reach 98 on the season, the 2026 Brewers have to post a 6-8 record the rest of the way to be the winningest team in franchise history.

Along those lines, the Brewers need to finish the season with an 8-6 record to be the first time in franchise history to reach the 100-win mark in a single season. No team in the NL Central has reached 100 wins since the 2016 season, when the Chicago Cubs won 103 regular season games and the World Series.

Of course, to truly go down as "the best Brewers team in franchise history," the 2026 squad needs their success to translate to the postseason. Until another team at least reaches the World Series, the 1982 squad will remain the "best team in franchise history." Reaching 98 wins, or 100 for that matter, would help the Brewers secure the top seed in the National League, which, in turn, would help them accomplish their goals in the postseason. Therefore, these last 14 games are important, and not just for re-writing the franchise record books; they have big implications when it comes to playoff seeding.
