As the month of June concludes, the Milwaukee Brewers keep getting closer and closer to the division-leading Chicago Cubs. The Crew has found a way to close the gap to just two games, despite being more than five games back of the North Siders to start the month.
While the Brewers' winning ways over the last month and their resulting chase down of their division rivals required a full team effort, a few head-turning performances, especially from Jacob Misiorowski, Christian Yelich, and Sal Frelick, really paved the way for the team's success. These three guys really helped propel the team to where they currently are in the standings as the calendar flips to July.
1. Christian Yelich
Halfway through the month of May, if you would have told any Brewers fan that Christian Yelich would be the team’s best player in June, you would have been met with an excited yet very skeptical look. On May 23, the former MVP and 3x All-Star held a .199 batting average, falling below the Mendoza Line, which no ball player wants to even flirt with.
Now, as the MLB season enters its fifth calendar month, Yelich is batting .262 while raising his OPS more than 130 points from the aforementioned inflection point in late May. In June alone, Yelich clubbed four homers, six doubles, and collected an eye-popping 21 RBI. His .333/.396/.540 slash line during the month turned around his season and more than made up for his slow start to the year.
Yeli enters July on a 12-game hit streak, and he looks like his former self once again. With a seemingly healthy back (stops to knock on wood about 100 times), and the most power that he's displayed since 2019, Yelich has carried the Brewers' offense through their recent winning streak.

2. Jacob Misiorowski
Just how good was Miz in three starts in June? Well, in short, he was fantastic. He finally made his long-awaited MLB debut on June 12 versus the St. Louis Cardinals and pitched five shutout, no-hit innings and earned the win against the Brewers' hated division rival.
He followed that up with a road start in Minnesota against the Twins and carried a perfect game bid into the 7th inning before allowing a two-run homer, which remain the only two runs that he's allowed in his young major league career.
And for the third June installment of the Miz show, he faced the ultimate showdown against 2024 NL Rookie of the Year and All-Star Game starting pitcher, Paul Skenes. Miz won that battle by pitching another five shutout innings, giving up just two hits and two walks while striking out an impressive eight batters.
Miz finished the month with a 1.13 ERA and a 0.63 WHIP. I'm not sure what you or I or any Brewers fan was expecting from the 23-year-old in the first month of his MLB career, but whatever it was, Miz surely exceeded it. And now, we're all counting down the days until his next start, which thankfully is scheduled for tomorrow night.

3. Sal Frelick
The Brewers elected to move Sal Frelick to the leadoff spot in mid-June, and it has certainly paid off for them. Yes, the team winning games, but Frelick is also enjoying a great deal of individual success, not only since moving to the top of the lineup, but throughout the month of June.
During the month, Frelick slashed .303/.352/.394 while slugging two HR and collecting 14 RBI. He continues to play Gold Glove caliber defense in right field, ranking second in all of baseball in outfield assists with eight — just one behind Mike Yastrzemski of the San Francisco Giants.
Frelick's unwavering effort, relentless at-bats, and flat-out hustle between the lines make him an invaluable piece of the Brewers' ball club, and has been a large reason for the team's success over the last six weeks. His performance even has some considering whether an All-Star Game nod could be in his future, though he faces a tough task in the National League outfield group.
