The Milwaukee Brewers had to make some tough decisions in order to round out their Opening Day roster. Position player wise they ended up going with third basemen Oliver Dunn + Vinny Capra, journeyman utility player Isaac Collins, and added Jake Bauers to the 40-man roster. In the pitching department, they reached an option agreement with pitcher Jose Quintana so that he can continue to build up, but also called up rookie Chad Patrick.
Missing the cut from the MLB roster were pitching phenoms Jacob Misiorowski and Craig Yoho. Additionally, rookie infielder Caleb Durbin was re-assigned to minor league camp to focus on his defense.
One other player who was competing for the back up first base role throughout the entirety of Cactus League play was Tyler Black. Despite a tough spring training, he was in the running for a MLB roster spot through the last day of camp. Unfortunately, he has since been dealt some brutal injury news.

On Friday, March 28 the Brewers Triple-A affiliate Nashville Sounds released their Opening Day roster. Missing from the list of players was Black. Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel quickly provided an update on this and revealed that Black fractured a bone in his hand and will miss 6-8 weeks.
Tyler Black will miss the start of the season at Class AAA Nashville. He fractured his right hamate bone and will be out 6 to 8 weeks.

The bone that Black fractured is called the hamate. This carpal bone is commonly fractured in baseball players when it sees an overload of forces from batting. Surgery is commonly recommended, but the Brewers have not yet announced if this will be the case for Black or not.
Regardless, Black will be out for at least the next 6-8 weeks. At best, he may be available for the Brewers to use in late May/early June.
