Spring Training is fast approaching. Just four weeks from today, Milwaukee Brewers pitchers and catchers will report to American Family Fields of Phoenix to begin their ramp-up for the 2026 season. Just five days after that, on February 17, the Brewers will hold their first official full-squad workout.

Joining the Brewers' big-league squad in Maryvale this spring is an exciting group of non-roster invitees (NRI). Names like Gerson Garabito and Eddys Leonard, whose additions to the Brewers' roster were covered here at Reviewing the Brew earlier in the offseason, headline a group of NRI who will compete for a spot on the big-league roster, with a minor league contract to fall back on. The group also includes several prospects who have been in the Brewers' farm system for several years, and are unlikely to make the major league roster, but will nonetheless have a chance to prove themselves against strong competition this spring.

One such prospect, who earned an invite to big-league camp earlier this offseason, is continuing to build on his solid 2025 campaign. Playing in his home country this offseason, 23-year-old utility-man Eduardo García has been dominating the Venezuelan Winter League and will hope to keep that momentum going as he joins the Brewers in Arizona next month.

Originally signed as an international free agent in 2018, García made his organizational debut in 2019 in the Dominican Summer League, where he posted an impressive .919 OPS. After arriving in the United States following the COVID shutdown, he struggled to find consistency at the plate, producing relatively poor offensive numbers overall at the Low-A and High-A levels through the 2023 season.

However, García continued to show value as a super-utility player, seeing most of his time at shortstop and centerfield while also filling in effectively at second base, third base, and left field. As a result, he spent 2020-2023 as a Top 30 prospect in the Brewers system, according to MLB Pipeline, but fell out of the rankings after the 2023 season.

After a dip in his prospect status, Garcia’s stock has risen significantly over the past year. He appeared in 96 games with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and another 33 with the Biloxi Shuckers during the 2025 season. Across both stops, he slashed .243/.330/.395 and swiped an impressive 41 bases, shattering his previous single-season high of 15 stolen bases.

The momentum he had from the 2025 campaign has carried over into winter ball; through 34 games in the Venezuelan Winter League he holds a .324/.395/.581 slash line with six home runs and seven doubles, while playing for the Cardenales de Lara.

While Double-A appears to be his likely starting point for the 2026 season, the Brewers have plenty to be encouraged about with the strides he has made at the plate. He will now be tested further in Spring Training, where he’ll face major league competition along with other non-roster invitees.
