A quiet offseason has given way to a busy spring training of roster moves for the Milwaukee Brewers. After the injury to Blake Perkins, the Brewers reunited with Mark Canha, as well as adding Manuel Margot to bolster the outfield depth.
Some, myself included, have felt that the Brewers needed to add to their rotation. Days after being in on Garrett Crochet, before he was ultimately traded to Boston, the team sent Devin Williams to the Yankees for Nestor Cortes. Still, it felt like there was another piece that should be added and the Brewers did just that with the addition of Jose Quintana.

Brewers make the savvy spring move to sign Jose Quintana
With Brandon Woodruff still working back from injury, and DL Hall still on the mend with his lat injury, the Brewers have agreed to terms with LHP Jose Quintana, on a one year deal reportedly worth $4-5 million per MLB insider Francys Romero. In 31 starts for the Mets during the 2024 season, Quintana posted a respectable 3.75 ERA in 170.1 innings of work. It was honestly surprising to see him last as long as he did on the free agent market.
Quintana makes a lot of sense for Milwaukee, especially considering how well he has pitched against the Brewers over the course of his career. Brewers fans last saw Quintana in the NL Wild Card series against the Mets, when he was lights out, pitching six scoreless innings with five strikeouts, and allowing just four hits.

With Opening Day just weeks away, Quintana will figure to join the rotation along with Freddy Peralta, Aaron Civale, Nestor Cortes, Tobias Myers, and maybe Brandon Woodruff. This move also likely moves Aaron Ashby to the bullpen, as a multi-inning guy, akin to what the team would use Brent Suter in the past.
