Following their defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS, the Milwaukee Brewers are gearing up for an eventful offseason in an effort to improve on their 2025 finish.

Some of that work will include fundamental changes to the roster, like a trade of a certain ace pitcher. Other components involve internal reshuffling, like a promotion for now-President of Baseball Operations Matt Arnold.

However, there is another aspect to an offseason that is a little less exciting: maintenance. Players tend to get beat up over the course of a 162-game season (or, in the Brewers' case this year, 171 games), and they need time over the winter to recuperate and fix any ailments and injuries their bodies accrued over the summer.

As such, a swath of injury updates on Brewers players has come through in recent days, and most of it is positive. However, both William Contreras and Caleb Durbin are set to undergo surgery, complicating their offseasons, as reported by MLB.com's Adam McCalvy on the social media platform X.

William Contreras, Caleb Durbin surgeries shouldn't derail readiness for 2026

Starting with Contreras, the franchise catcher fractured his left middle finger in early May, though he still caught 128 contests and played in 150 this season. That injury was likely at least partly to blame for his relatively down season, though the backstop still produced a 113 wRC+ and 3.6 fWAR. If he proves healthy after a corrective procedure, he could be an extension candidate this offseason.

In more major surgery news, Durbin is expected to need an elbow procedure. He reportedly suffered the injury late in the regular season, though it didn't affect him too much at the plate, as the rookie hit .276/.364/.414 (121 wRC+) in nine postseason games.

Unlike Contreras, who will only need rest after his procedure, Durbin will need to rehab his injury after surgery. The good news is that he's fully expected to be ready for spring training in 2026, and he'll have four months to get ready for camp after his surgery.

Meanwhile, Sal Frelick, who battled knee troubles throughout the latter half of the year, received imaging on his ailing lower body. The tests were "unremarkable" according to McCalvy, which is actually a good thing despite the negative connotation behind the word. He should be 100% ready for camp, and hopefully he'll be over his knee troubles that sent his batting line careening in September (.237/302/.368, 87 wRC+).

Lastly, Trevor Megill (flexor strain), DL Hall (oblique strain), Logan Henderson (elbow inflammation), and Quinn Priester (wrist soreness) are reportedly over their respective injuries. Hall and Henderson were notably left off the postseason roster, whereas Megill and Priester each made multiple appearances in October.
