Brewers injury updates: Jackson Chourio's status, Jacob Misiorowski's rehab assignment, Logan Henderson's timetable

As the winning streak continues, several key Brewers are nearing their returns to the field

The Milwaukee Brewers just can't stop winning. And every night, seemingly a new player is responsible for keeping the first-place Crew in the win column. Whether it's Isaac Collins hitting a walk-off homer, William Contreras and Brice Turang's recent power surge, or an RBI sacrifice bunt from slugging first-baseman Andrew Vaughn, the Brew Crew continues to find new ways to win and grow their lead over the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central.

What makes Milwaukee's current winning streak, their second of 10 games or more in the last six weeks, even more impressive is that they are doing it without some of their key pieces. Jackson Chourio landed on the IL with a hamstring strain at the end of July, Jacob Misiorowski is set to miss a couple of starts after being hit in the shin with a comebacker, and Logan Henderson, Miz's replacement in the starting rotation, went down with right elbow inflammation after his start last week.

However, ahead of Tuesday night's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, several Brewers insiders revealed updates on each of the three players mentioned above (and a few others) that should have the Milwaukee faithful encouraged about their roster down the stretch. It appears, as of now, that the team's roster will essentially be at full strength by the time that rosters expand to 28 on September 1.

Jackson Chourio likely to begin rehab assignment before the end of the month

Chourio's hamstring injury that he suffered in a game against the Cubs just before the end of July initially seemed like nothing to worry about. In fact, for a day or two, it looked like he was perhaps going to avoid the IL altogether.

However, the Brewers are electing to be especially cautious with their young superstar, as reiterated by the organization’s senior vice president and general manager, Matt Arnold, when he joined the Fan Duel Sports Network broadcast during Monday night's series opener with the Pittsburgh Pirates. As a result, Chourio was placed on the IL and will likely remain there for at least a few more weeks.

Several Brewers insiders, including Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, reported that Chourio is currently running at about 75% while working through a hitting and throwing progression. The hope, as McCalvy notes, is that he will begin a rehab assignment before the end of the month.

Meanwhile, the combination of Isaac Collins, Blake Perkins, and newcomer Brandon Lockridge has filled in admirably for the injured Chourio over the last two weeks. Collins is coming off of a NL Player of the Week Award, Blake Perkins has three homers in August, and Lockridge has five hits and five RBI in his first seven games with the Crew.

Jacob Misiorowski might begin rehab assignment on Friday, team still deciding next move

The Brewers also appear to be exercising caution with their rookie All-Star starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski. After a comebacker off the bat of Seiya Suzuki left The Miz with a contusion in his left tibia, the Brewers elected to place their rookie phenom on the IL just before he was scheduled to make his next start. The decision appeared to be a combination of Misiorowski not being 100% healthy and the team wanting to find a way to limit his innings down the stretch.

The consideration of how much they want to limit his innings appears to be continuing to affect their decision with how they want to handle Misiorowski's return. According to several Brewers reporters, including Sophia Minnaert, The Miz is set to throw a bullpen today and then could head to the minor leagues for a rehab assignment as early as Friday, or potentially rejoin the Brewers starting rotation.

Misiorowski's spot in the rotation, which is currently occupied by Tobias Myers, is set to come up again on Friday when the Brewers open a weekend series in Cincinnati against the Reds. It's unlikely, but rather than begin a rehab assignment, the team could elect to just add The Miz back into the rotation. More likely, they will ease him back into his rotation role with a few shorter starts in the minors. It all depends on how the Brewers' young star feels and how much the team wants to limit his innings before the stretch run.

Logan Henderson not expected back until the final few days of the regular season

When Misiorowski went on the IL, the Brewers turned to Logan Henderson to replace him in the big league rotation. Henderson has been very successful when given the opportunity to pitch at the major league level this season, but those instances have been few and far between.

After another strong start in Misiorowski's stead, Henderson looked destined to make at least one more start before The Miz returned from the IL. However, just a few days after his start against the Washington Nationals, the Brewers placed Henderson on the IL with right elbow inflammation, a scary injury for any pitcher.

It was unclear just how severe Henderson's injury was until the Brewers revealed an update on their talented young starter on Tuesday afternoon. As reported by Hunter Baumgardt and several other Brewers insiders, Henderson is not expected to return until late September or early October, right around when the regular season ends and the postseason begins.

With the Brewers unlikely to require Henderson's services come playoff time, it remains to be seen how the team will handle his recovery process. Henderson figures to be an important part of the Brewers' starting rotation in 2026, so doing anything to jeopardize his long-term health, especially when other starting options exist in Milwaukee's organization, would be an unwise decision.
