Brewers reportedly giving first-round pick overdue promotion to Triple-A

Throughout the Milwaukee Brewers' minor league system, franchise records are being broken left and right. Over the weekend, MLB Pipeline's No. 8-ranked Brewers prospect, outfielder Braylon Payne, broke the High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers' franchise record for the most home runs in a single season after he crushed his 23rd longball of the 2026 campaign.

One week before Payne's record-breaking bomb, Milwaukee's No. 15-ranked prospect, first baseman Blake Burke, broke the Double-A Biloxi Shuckers' single-season home run record. Burke, who was selected with the Brewers' Competitive Balance Round A pick back in 2024, which is often considered a first-round pick despite not being Milwaukee's first selection of the draft, now has a ridiculous 30 homers on the season, displaying a degree of power that is seldom seen in the pitcher-friendly Southern League.

However, Burke isn't just crushing baseballs down in Double-A; he's displaying a complete offensive profile that should have Brewers fans excited about his future in the organization. With an eye-popping slash line of .285/.367/.603 which combines for a .970 OPS, Burke has proven that he's not a three true outcomes (home run, walk, strikeout) hitter as some have inaccurately labeled him throughout his minor league career. Rather, Burke, who was named the Southern League Player of the Month in July, possesses a polished approach at the plate that suggests he will continue to find success as he advances to the top level of the minors and starts knocking on the door of the big leagues.

Speaking of progressing to the top level of the minors, Burke's long-awaited promotion to Triple-A has reportedly arrived. According to Chase Ford, a trusted minor league baseball insider who has accurately reported several Brewers' prospect promotions this year, Milwaukee is sending Burke to Triple-A after his record-breaking performance with the Shuckers.

Since joining the Brewers' farm system during the final weeks of the 2024 season, Burke has flat out raked. The 6'3" left-handed slugging first-baseman has 46 homers and 52 doubles in 232 career games in the minor leagues, while maintaining an excellent .373 on-base percentage.

To go along with his impressive power and solid plate discipline, Burke has shown an impressive knack for stealing bases. He collected 15 stolen bases in 132 games a season ago, but already has 28 in 95 games this year. Not thought of as a speedster on the basepaths, Burke is an opportunistic baserunner who has an impressive ability to read opposing pitchers, and the result is a clear path to a 30-30 campaign in his second full season in professional baseball.

Burke will join a Nashville Sounds team that already has a couple of options at first base. The combination of Brock Wilken, Luke Adams, and Tyler Black has covered most of the innings at the cold corner for the Sounds this year, but the former two have the ability to man third base as well, and Black has played mostly outfield this season. With at-bats at the DH position available for Burke as well, there will be plenty of combinations for Sounds' manager Rick Sweet to explore in the coming weeks.

It's exciting news for Burke -- news that he most certainly earned with his head-turning performance in Double-A this season. Brewers fans should start keeping a close eye on the slugging Burke as it won't be too long before the former 34th overall pick is donning a Brewers jersey and crushing home runs at American Family Field.
