Yesterday was supposed to be the second MLB start for Jacob Misiorowski, but the weather in Chicago had other plans. Several hours before first pitch, the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs announced that yesterday's game had been postponed due to weather in the Chicago area. It was a disappointing development for Brewers and Cubs fans alike, whose teams sit in the top two spots of the NL Central as they square off in mid-June. However, Brewers fans have more to gripe with as they were deprived of watching their exciting young flamethrower, Misiorowski, face off against their hated rivals in the Cubs.

While teams will often simply push their starting pitchers back a day when the team experiences a postponement, as the Cubs did by electing to have Jameson Taillon, the scheduled starter for Wednesday's rained-out affair, toe the rubber in Thursday afternoon's contest, the Brewers have elected to go a different route. Here are the scheduling changes resulting from yesterday's postponement.

Freddy Peralta to start this afternoon as initially scheduled

Rather than have Misiorowski start this afternoon and keep the rotation lined up as it previously had been, the Brewers are electing to throw their initially scheduled starter, Freddy Peralta, for today's matchup with the Cubs, as first reported by Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on X.

Peralta has clearly been the team's ace this season, and in an important game against the team they are chasing in the standings, there's no one the Brewers would rather have starting things off. Not only has Peralta been lights-out in general this season, but he's already had success against this Cubs lineup. Back on May 4, after the Crew dropped the first two games of a three-game series at American Family Field against the Cubs, Peralta went six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and striking out seven Cubs hitters.

That said, Peralta has struggled while pitching at Wrigley Field throughout his career. In nine total appearances, he holds a 4.63 ERA, while walking 25 batters in just 35 innings. However, Peralta does have high strikeout numbers while pitching at Wrigley Field, collecting 48 Ks in those same nine appearances. The Brewers need a strong outing from Peralta today, as his opponent, Taillon, has been tough to score runs on this season.

Jacob Misiorowski to make second career MLB start tomorrow night against the Minnesota Twins

While Brewers fans certainly would have loved to see their pitching prospect phenom carve up the Cubs' lineup, that day will have to wait. In an effort to avoid changing both Peralta and Misiorowski's schedules by having the latter throw this afternoon in Chicago, the Brewers keep Peralta's timeline the same and move Miz to tomorrow night, when the team opens up a three-game weekend series in Minnesota against the Twins.

Misiorowski's start tomorrow night will be an important one, not only because the Brewers need to take advantage of a winnable game facing a scuffling Twins team that has lost eight of its last ten, but also because it will be the first start for Miz since his highly anticipated and highly successful MLB debut. Following up his five no-hit innings against the St. Louis Cardinals with another strong start against the Twins would give both Miz and Brewers fans alike a sense of confidence that his success in the big leagues is repeatable and here to stay.

Miz will face off against Joe Ryan, who has been the Twins’ best pitcher this season, and one of the best starters in all of baseball. He holds a 2.93 ERA and already has seven wins to his name, tied for the third most in all of MLB. However, the Twins offense has been nothing to write home about this year, so we could be looking at a good old-fashioned pitchers’ duel.

Brewers and Cubs to play split doubleheader on August 18, in makeup of yesterday's rainout

When the Brewers and Cubs announced that yesterday's game had been postponed due to rain, many thought that a doubleheader would be played today, with the two teams already scheduled for a game at 1:10 p.m. CT. However, it was announced that the game would instead be made up on August 18, as part of a split doubleheader. The teams were already set to play a four-game series during that time, so the additional game essentially makes it a five-game set.

If the season continues as it has begun, a "five-game series" between the Cubs and Brewers in mid-August could have serious playoff implications. The Brewers will be four days into a stretch of 18 straight days of games, while the Cubs will be on day seven of 13-straight without an off day. While two games today would have probably benefitted the Brewers, delaying the makeup game until mid-August should come with some added significance and notably falls after next month's trade deadline.
