Death, taxes, and Milwaukee Brewers starting pitchers sustaining injuries. Before today, Milwaukee was already was expected to start the year without Aaron Ashby, DL Hall, and Brandon Woodruff. Now, Tobias Myers has been thrown into the mix as he left his most recent spring training start with an oblique injury.
In Myers' third inning of work against the Angels, Myers felt a pull while throwing a slider to JD Davis. He threw a few pitches afterwards, but then called the training staff on to take a look. Myers was removed from the game and will get imaging done to determine the severity.
Tobias Myers will undergo imaging to determine the severity of his left oblique injury, but heβs optimistic. Brewers already projected to have starters Aaron Ashby, DL Hall, Brandon Woodruff and Robert Gasser on the injured list to open the season. pic.twitter.com/xhSXgmVLVN

Whats the impact of Tobias Myers' injury on the Milwaukee Brewers early season pitching plans?
Pat Murphy had previously announced that Myers and Aaron Civale would be next in line behind Freddy Peralta and Nestor Cortes to begin the year. Whether Myers would have started the finale against the New York Yankees or the home opener against the Kansas City Royals is now a moot point as pending a miraculously clean scan, he seems likely to begin the 2025 season on the injured list.
To complicate matters more, the Brewers fifth starter behind Myers and Civale is a bit of a question mark as Jose Quintana, who signed late, may or may not be ready by early April. Should Quintana be deemed not ready, and Myers be sidelined, a rotation spot would have to be filled as Milwaukee does not have the luxury of having off-days early on in the the season as they play 10 games in 11 days to begin the regular season.
40-man roster options that Milwaukee could turn to include Elvin Rodriguez, Tyler Alexander, Logan Henderson, Chad Patrick, and Carlos Rodriguez. A bullpen game is also a possibility as guys like Connor Thomas, Jared Koenig, and Bryan Hudson are all capable of tossing multiple innings.
Hopefully Myers' injury isn't too serious, but it's likely to disrupt the Brewers early season pitching plans even if it isn't deemed to be a serious ailment.
