If you tuned in to yesterday afternoon's Milwaukee Brewers game against the San Francisco Giants, you may have noticed something different about the Crew's uniforms. Replacing names such as Yelich, Durbin, and Frelick on the back of the Brewers' jerseys was a one-syllable nickname: Ueck.
The Brewers honored the legendary broadcaster Bob Uecker with a Celebration of Life that took place throughout their series finale against the Giants on Sunday afternoon. Prior to the game beginning, Uecker's family and friends shared their favorite memories about Mr. Baseball in a touching tribute moderated by Ueck's former booth partner, Bob Costas. Legends such as George Brett, Ted Simmons, Bud Selig, Robin Yount, and more gathered together in front of the Brewers' dugout to reminisce on the incredible life of Bob Uecker.
Yount delivered the perfect tribute to Ueck by sharing one of the things that his longtime friend said to him prior to passing away in January of this year. Yount explained that Uecker said to him that, "he wasn't afraid of dying, he just didn't want to be there when it happened." It's the perfect reminder that Uecker would have wanted his Celebration of Life to be a cheerful one, mimicking the joy that he spread to the world throughout his incredible life.
With the packed crowd at American Family Field balancing the sadness that they feel knowing Uecker is no longer sitting in the press box and the happiness that they can't help feeling when they think back on the many memorable moments that Mr. Baseball gave them, the Brewers series finale against the Giants seemed like an afterthought, but if there's one person that wouldn't have wanted his tribute to get in the way of that day's baseball game, it was Ueck. And so, the Brewers and Giants took the field with "Ueck" across the backs of Milwaukee's players and coaching staff.

As noted by Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, all of the proceeds from the auctions will benefit "three of Uecker's favorite charities: Wounded Warrior Project, the ALS Association and the Bob Uecker Chair in Pancreatic Cancer Research at the Medical College of Wisconsin." In expert fashion, the Brewers have continued the amazing philanthropic efforts that Ueck participated in throughout his life, while also offering Brewers fans a chance at acquiring a slice of baseball history. Auctions are set to remain open until September 8, so fans have plenty of time to get their bids in.
It was an incredibly touching Celebration of Life yesterday, with rare footage from Uecker's life, moving stories from his friends and colleagues, and heads full of memories from the legendary broadcaster's amazing life. Bob Uecker's memory continues to and will forever live on among a Brewers and baseball community that was incredibly lucky to have experienced his greatness.
