The Winter Meetings are a very fun time for baseball fans. Rumors tend to come to the surface and fan aspirations to sign or trade for the player of their choice is at it's peak. To date, the MLB off-season has gotten off to a slow start and there are currently a lot of available players to target that are free agents. The Brewers could look to make a signing during the Winter Meetings.

The Winter Meetings will kick off on Sunday, December 4th and run through Wednesday the 7th. The Meetings are in San Diego this year and it's the first year the Meetings have been in person since 2019, when they were also in San Diego. Because everyone is back in the same hotel and convention center, there could be a lot of activity.

Here we will take a look at three free agents that the Brewers could target at Winter Meetings.

Brewers Winter Meetings free agent target #1: 3B Justin Turner

Two years ago the Brewers were heavily involved in contract discussions with Justin Turner. This year, he had his option declined by the Dodgers and is a free agent once again. Given the history between the Brewers and Turner, he could again be on their radar.

Turner will be 38 years old next season, but he still has been producing at the plate. Last year he slashed .278/.350/.438/.788 with 36 doubles,13 home runs, and 81 RBI. He did set a career high in doubles. The biggest question mark, aside from seeing if Turner can be lured away from the Dodgers, is if the Brewers would be willing to spend around $15MM for his services.

Brewers Winter Meetings free agent target #2: C Christian Vasquez

With the departure and drop off of offensive production from Omar Narvaez, Victor Caratini is currently atop of the Brewers depth chart behind the plate. They have Mario Feliciano, Peyton Henry, and Alex Jackson as depth pieces on the 40 man roster as well. What the Brew Crew really needs is a starting catcher upgrade.

There is a lot of speculation that the Brewers could acquire a starting catcher via trade, either with the A's or the Blue Jays. However, free agent Christian Vasquez is available and would be a solid option. He is by no means a power threat, but he has good bat to ball skills, hits for a decent average, and would be a reasonably priced option for Matt Arnold to pursue.

Brewers Winter Meetings free agent target #3: OF/DH Mitch Haniger

It remains to be seen yet as to what the Brewers are going to do at the DH position. Andrew McCutchen has departed in free agency after his one year deal ran it's course. It seems unlikely that they target him again. This opens the door for the Brewers to pursue someone else.

Mitch Haniger is one intriguing player to consider as a DH. While he can also play the outfield, the 31 year old struggled with injuries last year. He mashed 39 home runs during a fully healthy season in 2021. It is possible that the Brewers reunite with their former 2012 MLB draft pick and bring him home on a one year deal.

Hopefully the Brewers are active at the Winter Meetings this year. They have made some moves so far this offseason, but have not yet made an impact move. The Winter Meetings seem like a perfect time to do so.
