The Milwaukee Brewers officially have nine players from their 40-man roster participating in the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC). Players such as William Contreras, Jackson Chourio, Ángel Zerpa (all for Team Venezuela), Brice Turang (Team USA), and Abner Uribe (Team Dominican Republic) are the major headlines. Joey Ortiz (Team Mexico), Carlos Rodriguez (Team Nicaragua), and Rob Zastryzny and Tyler Black (Team Canada) complete the remainder of those involved.

On the prospect front, several other Brewers are involved, but one player in particular that stands out is 2025 first-round draft selection Andrew Fischer. At just 21 years old, and regarded by some as the best third base prospect in baseball, Fischer will be representing Team Italy in the 2026 WBC.

Selected 20th overall out of the University of Tennessee, Fischer will bring a powerful left-handed swing and advanced hit tool to the international stage. He got his feet wet in professional baseball last year, posting a .848 OPS in 19 games in High-A, but will now look to make a name for himself as a young prospect, much like Sal Frelick did during the 2023 WBC, for Team Italy.

In 2023, Frelick had just one full professional season under his belt before competing against the world's best. That year, he collected seven hits in five games while hitting three doubles and swiping one base. Fischer now hopes to follow in his footsteps, for the same country, with even less professional exposure.

Although Frelick won’t be joining Fischer on Team Italy this year -- a surprise for Brewers fans -- the tournament still presents a prime opportunity for Fischer, who is projected to serve as the team’s top third baseman. His competition for time at the hot corner includes big leaguer Jon Berti, along with prospects Zach Dezenzo and Giaconino Lasaracina.

For Fischer and Team Italy, the challenge won’t be easy, as Pool B includes the United States, Mexico, Great Britain, and Brazil. Advancing out of pool play, scheduled for March 6–11 in Houston, Texas, will be tough, but Fischer’s performance could prove pivotal in helping Italy make a run.
