Jackson Chourio's performance in Brewers Game 2 put him in exclusive club
Jackson Chourio just keeps on delivering
You almost can run out of superlatives for Jackson Chourio. He's special, he's an incredible talent, he's undaunted, he's a superstar. Whatever you want to say, you're probably correct.
Jackson Chourio has been everything the Brewers were hoping for and more in his rookie campaign and he just helped save their season with a multi-homer performance in Game 2.
It was, quite literally, historic.
There's an old saying that you never know what you're going to see at a baseball game. There's always something that happens, some combinations of things that is so incredibly rare that you may have never seen before or never see again. Jackson Chourio in Game 2 had one of those performances
Jackson Chourio just made history in 3 ways, including joining a club with Babe Ruth
When you put yourself in a club whose only member is Babe Ruth, odds are you've just done something incredible.
The postseason is where clutch moments are everywhere and Jackson Chourio made the most of his. After the Brewers were down 1-0 in the first, Jackson Chourio hit a leadoff homer to tie the game. When Chourio came up again in the 8th and the Brewers were down 3-2, he once again led off the inning with a home run. Two game tying homers in one postseason game has only happened once before by the greatest of all time, Babe Ruth.
The company Chourio has been compared to all year has included superstars and Hall of Famers, but rarely does anyone approach a club that only Babe Ruth is in.
Chourio also made history in a couple of other ways with his multi-homer game. Not only did he join a club with Babe Ruth, he also did it as a 20 year old. The age has been brought up time and again this season but it just adds to the rarity of what we're seeing.
Chourio joins the company of Andruw Jones as players 20 years old or younger to have a multi-home run game in the postseason. Jones debuted as a 19 year old in 1996 and his home runs came in the World Series, which is also where Ruth had his game-tying home run record. Perhaps that's an indication of what's to come for this Brewers team and Chourio.
Let's not forget about Brewers franchise history either. While Milwaukee doesn't have a long and distinguished postseason resume, they've certainly added to it a lot in recent years. All those teams fell short and none of those players have ever accomplished what Chourio just did.
Jackson Chourio is the first Brewers player in franchise history to hit multiple home runs in a playoff game.
Of all the big Brewers postseason performances in the past, none have included a multi-home run game. Until now. Chourio doesn't seem finished either. There's still a Game 3 to go and if the Brewers are able to move on to the next round, there's no telling what kind of history Jackson Chourio and this team can make next.
